On Forgiveness Day, Kazashko celebrated Sirni Zagovezni (Cheesefare Sunday) and Maslenitsa, as is the tradition. The festival falls on the eve of Great Lent.
The villagers chased away winter and evil spirits by burning the effigy of Baba Zima (Grandmother Winter), with noise, dancing, songs and games. Now “humbled”, they await the coming of spring and Easter.
