Privacy and cookie policy

1. In short

This is an information site. It has no forms and no sign-up. Personal data may be processed in three cases:

Google Analytics: only if you give consent in the cookie banner. If you decline or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded and no cookies are set.
YouTube videos: the YouTube player loads only when you press a play button. Until then, only the video thumbnails are shown (section 5a).
Photos from Facebook: the images are loaded directly from Meta's servers (section 5).

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies and we do not profile visitors.

2. Data controller

This site is unofficial and is not affiliated with the Kazashko mayor's office or Varna Municipality.

3. Cookies and local storage

Strictly necessary: your browser stores only your choice from the banner (the kz-consent key in localStorage), so that we don't ask you on every visit. The choice is kept for 6 months, after which we ask again. This entry contains no personal data and is not sent anywhere.

Statistics cookies (only with consent):

_ga: Google Analytics, distinguishes visitors by a pseudonymous identifier. Expires after up to 2 years.
_ga_63VWHVLT83: Google Analytics, keeps the session state. Expires after up to 2 years.

YouTube cookies (only after you play a video): when you press “Play the videos” in the “Kazashko from above” section, or the play button on a video on other pages, the YouTube player is loaded. Once the video starts, Google may set its own cookies and browser storage entries, such as YSC, VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and yt-* entries. They are used for playback, YouTube statistics and abuse protection. Their lifetime is set by Google, up to 6 months. If you do not play videos, no such cookies are set.

You can change your choice at any time via the link (also at the bottom of every page). If you withdraw consent, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted and it stops loading.

3a. Google Analytics

Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Purpose: visitor statistics with pseudonymous identifiers (no names and no full IP addresses): number of visits, which pages are read, where visitors come from (search engine, social network), device and browser type, approximate location down to city level.
Legal basis: your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 4a of the Bulgarian Electronic Commerce Act (for cookies).
Settings: Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. We have disabled Google Signals and ad personalisation. We do not combine the data with other sources and cannot identify an individual visitor.
Data retention in Google Analytics: 2 months.
Transfers outside the EU: Google may process data in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, based on the European Commission's adequacy decision of 10 July 2023.

4. Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Workers). To deliver the page and protect it from attacks, the provider technically processes your IP address and request data, such as browser type and the requested address. We do not store this data or use it for analysis. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.

5. Photos from Facebook

The photos in the “Photos” section are not stored on our server.

Our server asks Facebook for the latest public posts of the “Kazashko - Varna” page and receives links to the images. This request contains no data about you.
Your browser loads the images directly from the servers of Meta Platforms (fbcdn.net). As with any image from a third-party server, Meta receives your IP address and the technical data of the request. We send the request without a “referrer”, so Meta does not learn which page you came from.
The site does not load Facebook scripts, buttons or embedded frames (iframes). Only the image files themselves are loaded.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in showing up-to-date photos of the village (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not set cookies and receive no data from Meta. You can object at any time at info@kazashko.com or block images from fbcdn.net in your browser.
The author is named under every photo. We keep no copy. If a post is deleted or hidden on Facebook, it disappears from the site within 15 minutes.

5a. YouTube videos

The home page, the “In the media” page and the topics in the “Culture and faith” section include videos about Kazashko published on YouTube by their authors. The videos are not stored on our server.

Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (the YouTube service).
Before you play a video: your browser loads only the video thumbnails directly from YouTube's server (i.ytimg.com). The request is sent without a “referrer” and sets no cookies. As with any image from a third-party server, Google receives your IP address and the technical data of the request (browser type, language).
After you play a video: the YouTube player loads in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Google receives your IP address, the address of our site, device and browser data and information about how you watch the video. It may set cookies and browser storage entries (section 3). If you are signed in to your Google account, Google may link the viewing to your account.
“Play the videos”: after you press it, the videos in the “Kazashko from above” section play one after another without sound until you press “Stop the videos”. Videos never start on their own without you pressing a button.
Legal basis: showing the thumbnails is our legitimate interest in presenting videos about the village (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The player loads only at your explicit request, when you press the button. If you do not want data to be sent to Google, do not play the videos. You can also watch them directly on YouTube via the links below them.
Transfers outside the EU: Google may process data in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Retention: set by Google. We do not receive or store data on who watched the videos.

If you have consented to Google Analytics, the statistics also record which video was played. See the Google Privacy Policy and YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

6. External links

Links to Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia, media outlets, OpenStreetMap and Google Maps open third-party sites with their own rules. The site's map is built from OpenStreetMap data embedded in the site itself. It does not load tiles, scripts or other resources from external servers.

7. Fonts and resources

The site does not load third-party fonts (Google Fonts, CDNs, etc.). It uses your device's system fonts. There are two external scripts: Google Analytics, which loads only after consent, and the YouTube player, which loads only when you play a video.

8. Copyright and removal

If you are the author of a photo, video or text and do not want the material to appear here, write to us at info@kazashko.com. We will remove it from the site within 48 hours, without you having to change or delete your own posts.

9. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing of your data, the right to object and the right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. As the statistics are pseudonymous, we usually cannot link them to a specific person. You can, however, withdraw consent and delete the cookies via “Cookie settings” or your browser settings. You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
