The Christmas and St Nicholas' Day celebration at the Mikhail Sholokhov community centre (chitalishte) was festive and heartfelt. In Kazashko, St Nicholas' Day (Nikulden) is celebrated by the old (Julian) calendar, on 19 December.
The guests watched the documentary about the village, “Odna dusha” (“One Soul”), and many were moved to see their late loved ones on the screen. The women of Kalinushka greeted the audience with a song, and the traditional tombola once again kept everyone in suspense.
